Job: Bartender
Experience: I have made drinks at home at private parties but never in a public setting before so I was a little nervous at first. I worked an opening shift so I got to see what it takes to get a bar ready to serve the masses. From stocking the coolers and putting ice in the bins to rolling silverware and cleaning the bathroom (I washed my hands before and after). Once the clientele started rolling in it was like 2nd nature because I've worked in the food industry before. The shift was decent and the traffic flow was not too overwhelming but pretty steady.
What I learned: There are 3 people in life that you should NEVER lie to...You should never lie to your tax accountant, your doctor or your bartender! Anyone can make a drink but if you do not have the kind of personality for the position you will not go far. The biggest part is making people feel welcomed, asking the right questions and allowing them to talk to you. Tips are vital part of the income stream here so being a people person is a plus.
Rating: I personally love being behind the bar slinging brews and cocktails. As a result of this job shadow I actually got offered a PT job at a local bar.
